Attack Of The (Matte) Lipstick

While riding downtown Friday night, I took this selfie shot of myself wearing the the shade Flat Out Fabulous from the new MAC RetroMatte collection. I now liiive for this lipstick!

Now that I’ve officially hit grown woman status (cue Beyonce’s ‘I’m Grown’) I’ve taken to wearing more lip color on a daily basis. Side note: In my mind, “grown woman status” officially hit me once I became a mom, but that’s not to say that you as a reader might not hit this stage at some other momumental moment in your lifestyle. It could be once you land an awesome new job, a super handsome husband/boyfriend/life partner, whatever. But, mine is officially once I became a mom.

I used to be that girl that consistently wore nothing but lipgloss all of the time (I’m still sometimes drawn to the super shiny of it all), but over the past year or so, I’ve somehow magically morphed into a lipstick only wearing girl; and lately I’ve been really into matte lipsticks. I think I tried wearing matte lipstick once years ago while working at The Magazine, but stopped because I felt like the formulas were always too drying for my lips. I never could understand why a regular lipstick would work better than a matte one and, after doing a bit more sleuthing on the internet, found that matte lipsticks contain less oil. This means it will last longer, but leaves a drier texture. Fast forward to now and I’m super glad to see that cosmetic companies have revamped the formulas so that they’re a bit more moisturizing and don’t leave my lips feeling like a chapped mess. Amaze.

MAC has created an awesome new matte color collection that includes a plethora of colors and even the oldie (but goodie!) Ruby Woo. The collection includes 7 other shades ($15 each) ranging from a light pink to a rich wine. There are also matching lip pencils available in 8 shades ($19.50 each). The collection will be available for purchase September 12 online and at all MAC locations. How many of you other Glamazons out there love matte lipstick, too?
