A Day In The Life: Summer Cruise with Malibu Island Spiced #GLAMIslandSpiced

Glamazons,

You guys know that my favorite summer thing to do is sail (or swim). I swear I was a mermaid in my former life because being around the water just calms me. Add a few Malibu Island Spiced cocktails, beautiful NYC landmarks and my best blogger friends and you have one of the best afternoons of summer. That’s exactly what transpired on Tuesday during a fab summer cruise courtesy of Malibu Island Spiced.

For the event, I went bright with my look (as was the theme) so I threw on my custom print skirt from Ghana (worn here and here), my new Zara platform sandals and a plain white t-shirt from H&M. For accessories, I grabbed my black Zara bag and stacked my printed bangles from the Harlem Street Festival. Fun!

Here’s my skirt flailing in the wind.

Makeda and I both wore shoes from the Zara sale.

As soon as I walked aboard the “Cloud Nine” boat, I saw all my faves: Danielle of Style and Beauty Doctor, Ty of Gorgeous in Grey, Channing of Channing in the City, Makeda of Glamazon Diaries, Janelle of Love, Andrea and Christen of Divas and Dorks.

We got busy filling out these cool signs about the trends we’re taking into Fall and the key to an endless summer. Unsurprisingly, I answered “leather” and “sexy stilettos” respectively. You could have guessed those, right?

Here’s how Makeda and Danielle answered:

Next up, we grabbed our drinks. I wanted a refreshing cocktail so I chose “Sparkling Spice”: Malibu Island Spiced and club soda.

The great thing about Malibu Island Spiced is it’s only 70 calories per serving so you can drink and stay in shape for bikini season. And speaking of bikinis, the cocktail totally made me feel like I was on an island vacation; it’s made with Caribbean Rum and I tasted a little coconut, vanilla and cinnamon. Delish!

With our drinks in tow, we set sail on the East River, and ran to the front of the boat to take in the beautiful weather and sights.

We sailed under the Brooklyn Bridge (one of my all-time favorite landmarks!), past Battery Park and around The Statue of Liberty. Sometimes you’re so busy making deadlines, hitting a packed schedule of events and running errands that you forget how beautiful New York City is. I needed that day just to take it all in.

After sailing, we headed over to Beekman Beer Garden. I can’t believe it was my first time going because it’s like my dream summer hangout spot! First, it’s right under the Manhattan bridge so the view is the best in the city. And the seating area is on top of sand so you feel like you’re on the beach with the river on one side and towering buildings on the other. It’s Miami meets the Downtown NYC. Just brilliant!

We enjoyed delicious eats from grilled burgers to ice cream, and danced in our flip flops to drum-heavy dance music. Fun times!

Malibu Island Spiced cocktails, a day of sailing and a dance party on the sand made Tuesday the perfect staycation. I plan to keep the party going with a cocktail soiree in my garden (yes, I randomly have one in the back of my New York City apartment, haha) when I need a reprieve during New York Fashion Week.

Check out the Malibu Rum Facebook page for recipes for a staycation of your own!

Kisses,

Glamazon Jessica
