Glamazon Guide: At-Home Waxing Made Easy

Glamazons,

Summer is officially here and we all know what that means… time to slip on that itty bitty bikini and soak up the sun’s rays (a la Glamazon Solange above in Croatia).

But before we luxuriate at the pool or on the beach, we have to get bikini-ready (we don’t want to end up like Miranda in “Sex and The City 2″)! There are several ways to remove hair (Glamazon Jessica prefers this) and if you prefer waxing, you’ll enjoy these tips.

TSkyy Hadley, owner of As “U” Wish Nail Spa, shared her secrets for the perfect, pain-free waxing experience at home. Check it below.

Before a wax:

-Be sure to exfoliate the area to be waxed in an upward circular motion to remove dead skin and expose underlying in-grown hairs. This will also help to prevent bumps after waxing. The exfoliating Coochie Kuchee Coo Sugar Scrub or any other scrub infused with Shea Butter removes dead skin, inhibits the growth of bacteria and allows for a more gentle removal of hair follicles during waxing.

-Make sure the hair to be waxed is at least 1/4 inch long for a flawless wax.

-Take an aspirin or drink a glass of wine an hour before your appointment to minimize pain.

During wax:

-If you’re a first time at-home waxer, I recommend trying the Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kits since the kit contains pre-waxed, pre-cut strips for a fast and easy wax.

-Make sure the area is clean and dry before applying a wax.

-Sprinkle some baby powder onto the area to be waxed for a smooth surface.

-Apply wax in the direction of hair growth.

-Pull wax stripes or hard wax off in the opposite direction of hair growth.

-Use one hand to pull the wax and use the other to stretch skin to minimize pain.

-Be sure to wax, small areas at a time. Take your time, this isn’t a race.

After wax:

-Apply a lotion infused with aloe onto the treated area to soothe the skin and reduce redness.

-Wearing loose cotton pants or a skirt will allow the treated area to breathe and prevent irritation.

-Try to stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours–sunscreens, chlorine and salt water may irritate the freshly waxed area.

Glamazons, would you use these tips for an at-home wax?

Stay Fabulous!

We would suggest exfoliating the treated area twice weekly to prevent ingrown hairs. You may try applying a suitable product to help raise the hair out of the skin. Advice and products are available in salon.

Great tips on waxing and exfoliating also.
