What I Wore: Not What You’d Expect

Glamazons,

You ever wonder how some people on Instagram (like Jim Shi who I love or Emil Wilbekintip) come up with such stunning photos on their smartphones? I think it’s because they realize beauty is all around them: in the sunset peaking through skyscraper buildings, in rain rhythmically beating down on the pavement, in lights reflecting off dark puddles on the street.

I’ve been trying to do more of that: finding beauty in unexpected places. Like all the graffiti in Harlem.

To some, it signifies crime and disorder; to me, it gives the city personality.

And though it’s not on a canvas hanging at a museum, you’ll find beautiful art adorning buildings throughout Harlem. Graffiti art always surprises me when I’m rushing to get to the gym, or brunch, or an event. And I have to stop dead in my tracks and just take it all in.

Beauty pops up when you’d least expect it.

My outfit is similar in a way. Who would think vertical and horizontal stripes could compliment each other? But it kind of works.

And blue and red are supposed to be opposites but turquoise and bright red always go together perfectly.

Here’s to ditching rules, going against the grain and finding beauty in places you’d never expect.

What do you think of my look?

Blazer: Old | Shirt: H&M | Skirt: H&M | Shoes: Zara | Clutch: American Apparel | Lipstick: RiRi Woo
