The Hair Removal Product That Changed My Life

Glamazons,

You don’t know my hair removal struggle! Can I be candid for a sec?

I hate, I mean strongly detest, a ton of hair down there. Especially during the summer months. Not only is it dreadful when you’re in a bikini on the beach and you notice embarrassing hair peeking out, but it’s also not ideal in hot, sticky temperatures. Gross.

For those reasons, I’m all about getting rid of hair where the sun don’t shine.

Back in the day, I’d use my good old razor without shaving cream (I know, I know). I learned the hard way that was a bad idea. My poor skin was so irritated from the constant shaving. Things quickly went from bad to worse, and I knew I needed a change.

Two summers ago after my big chop and in the middle of my hair removal crisis, though you couldn’t tell by the smile on my face.

Frustrated beyond belief, I tried a depilatory cream one night. Worst mistake of my life. After three minutes, I went speeding down the hallway to my bathroom as if I was literally on fire. Water failed to reverse the damage; I gave myself a chemical burn. I will spare the details of the aftermath but let’s just say it involved prayer, vaseline and a lot of time going commando.

Following that ordeal, I turned to waxing at the behest of my friends. I originally avoided it because it hurts (I still cringe when I get my eyebrows waxed though I’ve been doing it for 16 years!) but I heard the hair on your bikini line grows in thinner after each session. I thought if I could just endure the pain, it’d have a great payoff.

Turns out…I couldn’t endure the pain. Or the price. The first time I got waxed, I thought: this is what Huck from “Scandal” must have felt like when he was tortured by the U.S. government. I cried, sweated and actually cursed out the wax specialist in my head. The next two sessions were easier but still painful and expensive. I eventually gave it up.

My life changed unexpectedly when I went to a Bikini Zone event. I attended to try out the SurfSet fitness class (which was amazing and effective in toning my stomach but laughably embarrassing when I kept falling off the board). And after the class, we got an assortment of Bikini Zone products to try.

Admittedly, they sat on my dresser for awhile. But because I was planning to go for a swim, I figured I’d test out the Bikini Zone anti-bumps shave gel.

I slathered it on before shaving and followed up with the medicated cream. When I tell you, I experienced no discomfort, redness or irritation at all.

There is a God, and apparently, he works in product development at Bikini Zone.

The shave gel contains Vitamins A and E, soothing botanicals and moisturizing microbeads to lubricate and protect your skin while you shave. It’s also clear so you can see what you’re doing and avoid painful cuts and nicks.

AND my hair still hasn’t grown back. Don’t know if that’s from years of hair removal trauma or from the Bikini Zone Anti-Bumps Shave Gel.

But I’m happy with it either way.

Thank you so much for sharing this info, Jessica! I will certainly be heading to Walmart to purchase a tube of my own later today. I’ve been on the market for a shaving gel/cream for YEARS! And from one Black girl to the another, our hair “down there” tends to be much coarser so I haven’t had all that much luck.
