#NYFW: Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 – Glamorous Pajamas

Glamazons,

After a delay in presenting the collection (due to late deliveries), Marc Jacobs proved that he was totally worth the wait. At one of the most anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week, the designer delivered a beautiful, inspired yet wearable collection of get this, mainly glamorous pajamas. There were pajama-inspired blouses and dresses and high-waisted briefs in glittering metallic fabrications. And even the man himself came out in pajamas.

Another unique element of the show? The models came down the runway drenched in sepia-tone light, which rendered the clothing black and white. They then hit the runway a second time in natural light, in which the colors and textures of the clothing were actually visible. We totally thought it was an homage to Instagram, but MJ was actually inspired by Olafur Eliasson’s The Weather Project at the Tate in London. He tells Style.com: “Last season was all black and white, and life unfortunately isn’t that way, it’s all the shades of gray. I’ve felt out of sorts, and I wanted to see things sort of dismal and then still show the optimistic side.”

Interesting! Here are the deets:

Inspiration: Though the collection seemed to draw from the relaxed ladylike elegance of the ’50s, MJ mentioned the balance between the dismal and optimistic as his inspiration. And you can see that dichotomy translated in the clothes. The color palette is understated (rose, emerald, navy and black). The pieces are less elaborate than collections past and are decidedly elegant and uncomplicated. And there are few things more dismal than spending the day in your pajamas, no?

The optimism showed up though in the details: metallic silk pajamas, shimmering tweed, sparkling gold and silver sequin gowns. Even in MJ‘s despair, there was a glimmer of hope.

Key Pieces: Lamé pajamas, belted fur jackets, stunning sequin gowns complimented with fur stoles, high-waisted briefs in menswear plaid and tweed, opera length two-tone gloves, clutches in metallic or checkered print fabric.

Who I Could See Wearing This Collection: Kerry Washington, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Victoria Beckham, Anna Wintour.
