What They Wore: 2012 Teen Choice Awards with Zoe Saldana, Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez and More!

Glamazons,

The 2012 Teen Choice Awards last night and celebrities stepped out in vibrant, youthful trendy frocks that remind me of ‘Homecoming’ and Sweet Sixteens. No shade, it’s totally appropriate for the festivities. I had a couple GLAM favorites (can Zoe BE any more gorgeous?) and of course, there were a series of SHAMs. My fashion blogger heart aches. Let’s get into it.

Birthday girl Selena Gomez looked darling in a DSquared2 pink frock and strappy Herve Leger by Max Azria nude sandals. She wore her slick hair straight down and even gave you a little bit of ombre. GLAM.

Zoe Saldana is just the picture of elegance! She wore Johnathan Saunders separates and went for a pop of color in Christian Louboutin teal satin sandals with floral ribbon detail. Need I even say it? GLAM.

Snore, snore, snore. Oh, sorry, falling asleep. Taylor Swift has now replaced her love of sequins with draping in a dress by Maria Lucia Hohan and quite frankly, I couldn’t be more bored. She also chose 1 of the 4 hairstyles she rocks (the Grecian one) but thank God a makeup artist with a modicum of sense spared us another red lip (I know, Taylor tried). This is GLAM but only by default.

Demi Lovato went for a look that stands out in Falguni & Shane Peacock. You may recognize the print from the dress Selita Ebanks wore to the 2012 BET Awards. Demi completed her look with Christian Louboutin peeptoe pumps. I’m really loving this girl’s style lately, including her Willow Smith “Whip My Hair” / Beyonce “Single Ladies” ponytail. This gets a GLAM SLAM.

Oh heyyy No Doubt! Every (90s) girl’s favorite band hit the pink carpet and lead belle Gwen Stefani shut it down in my opinion. She rocked a zippered leather vest, cat eye sunglasses, fitted pants and pointy toe pumps with ankle straps. Do you see how she so stylishly graced her gold anklet over the ankle strap? (I am STEALING!). Her womb must hurt because she is giving me life. GLAM.

Jojo (remember her?) is looking HOT! I can’t think of the name of one of her songs but it doesn’t matter. She was adorbs in a white tank with a high-waisted sequin Marco Marco skirt which she topped off with Christian Louboutin heels and Micha Design jewelry. That body is werquing. GLAM.

Errrr…as much as I love her and want to just pinch her cheeks, Jordin Sparks has failed me here. Why, after slaving with a screaming trainer for months, would you cover up your new hot body in volume? It is beyond me. She wore a floral embroidered halter dress with a bubble hem (people still rock those?) and pumps. And those Grandma chandelier earrings! All wrong. SHAM.

Ms. Lea Michele is giving you Beyonce exaggerated hip realness in this little silver embroidered Atelier Versace getup which she paired with Versace platform pointy toe pumps. So simple, chic, modern and fun. Purr-fection! She finished off the look with sun-kissed golden skin and a little ombre for your nerves. Stewing in GLAM.

Lucy Hale‘s Wes Gordon dress has a modern neckline that is pretty much everything I ever hoped for on the Teen Choice Awards red carpet. A little trendy, a little edgy to balance out the classic, girly full skirt. Loving it…until you get to the Brian Atwood shoes. Gold peeptoes would’ve worked to finish the look off but the ankle strap and buckle are totes distracting. Still, she gets a GLAM.

At this point, Nina Dobrev is slaying pink carpets and snatching teenage wigs in her sleep. She stepped out in a teal J. Mendel strapless dress with draping from heaven. That extended hip literally made me faint and brought me back to life in one pink carpet twirl. Yes ma’am! She finished off the look with equally chic gold Jimmy Choo peeptoes with dainty buckles (ahem, Lucy Hale). This look is clearly a winner. GLAM.

What is Rebecca Black going through? This reminds me of my pre-teen years when I would throw on all the trends, smudge my eyes until I looked like a raccoon in my mom’s eyeliner and empty an entire bottle of mousse on my head until my curls were so stiff you could literally crack them in half. The busy printed baggy top, stuffed into a leather pleated skirt, and paired with dominitrax-inspired lace-up platforms is all sorts of horrible. I’m going to pray that’s lighting and her hair is not dyed at the ends. (Please don’t correct me in the comments saying it is dyed, such an atrocity will bring me to tears at my desk). SHAM SHAM SHAM.

I’ve got to erase the memory of Rebecca Black‘s outfit which some sartorial glamazingness, and Victoria Justice is serving guys! She is slaying the high-low trend with a turtleneck dress with a glorious back train that is just flowing in the wind. She adds a little edge with a studded belt (paired with florals, LOVE!) and compliments the entire look with nude peeptoes. Flawless. P.S. did I mention how her half up-half down hairstyle pays complete homage to her high-low gown? My favorite look of the night. GLAM.

Zooey Deschanel is beyond adorable and this look captures it to a tee. Her cobalt blue Monique Lhuillier A-line dress and black pumps with a bow are squeal-inducing and I love how she spices it up with a Jimmy Choo gold netted clutch. I would loved to see a little youthful quirkiness from her (I mean, if there’s any place to be young and endearingly weird, it’s at the Teen Choice Awards), but I still think this look is cuteness! GLAM.

We all know I’ve got Bieber fever, so to see Mr. Justin Bieber making a style statement just warms my cold fashion blogger heart. He did away with his usual skinny jeans for crisp white denim and matching sneakers paired with, get this, a camouflage t-shirt. Camouflage has never looked so clean! And I don’t know if it’s the v-neck, chain, sunglasses or “cool kid” pose but he’s starting to look less like a lesbian, right? This is so GLAM MAN. Go Justin!

And for every trend done right, there’s one that struggles. Kevin Mchale of Glee‘s fitted camo pants paired with oxfords and a black and white colorblocked menswear shirt? What in the overzealous stylist hell? This looks like Mr. Rogers (please tell me you know who that is…from Mr. Rogers neighborhood) dressing in his teenage son’s closet. Complete SHAM.

So there you have it, Glamazons. Tell me in the comments who was GLAM and who was a SHAM.

And check out Justin Bieber performing with Big Sean. Too cute!

Kisses,

Glamazon Jessica
