Ask The Glamazons: The Best Clothing Attire for Plus Size Girls

Kat wrote in on our Formspring page asking for a little guidance on what to wear as a size 16 Glamazon:

hi what is the best clothing attire for a plus size girl im a size 16?

Now, while I am of the mindset that anyone can wear anything if they have the confidence to pull it off, I understand that some things are basics that you should have in your closet.

So Kat, bookmark, pin, whatever you need to do to save this post because I’m going to give you a few pieces, I think would make a great basis for your wardrobe. So then you can mix in the funky fresh dressed to impress ready to party  pieces for a unique or trendy look. Hmk?

WRAP DRESS

So, first I would suggest a good wrap dress. This bad boy has traveling pants magical powers. Whoever slips one on is instantly, curvy, pulled together and ready for any occasion. This will be for the times that you aren’t sure what to wear. So I’d make friends with them and fast. You can grab a few below:

FLATTERING SKIRT

Next, a just as flattering piece would be an a-line skirt. This skirt will just lightly graze over your hips and thighs and give a some leg. Ooow! Now, again, I may be a bit on the girly side (well, a lot hehe) but a-line skirts will work for just about every occasion. With a blazer for work, a jean jacket for brunch and a t-shirt for running errands on the weekend. Below are a few I thought were really cute:

SEXY JEANS

Now, because every girl should have a pair of jeans in her closet that make her feel like the hautest thing since sliced bread, I’m going to recommend a pair of jeans. Bootcut jeans, again, universally flattering shape. They sit at a comfortable place on your waist, are straight through the thigh with a bit of a flare at the bottom of the jean that works wonders. Get into it below:

So a few more things:

-Button up shirts are rarely flattering–for anyone. You have to deal with gaping between buttons, and well, I just think wearing a blouse is a better option.

-When it comes to prints, the smaller the better.

-And if there is an area that you want to draw the eye away from, wear dark colors but pair them with something bright or fun.

-Oh, and last thing. You need to get into Gabi Gregg’s blog, Gabi Fresh. She will seriously inspire you to not limit yourself to what people think a plus size girls should wear which isn’t to negate what I shared in this post, because these are basics, but she’ll show you how to work things you thought you couldn’t.

-Here are some great plus-size stores you can try:

ASOS

Forever 21 Plus Size

Dorothy Perkins

Torrid

Monif C.

Jessica London

Evans

Fashion To Figure

I hope this wasn’t too long, Kat and you found it helpful :)

Glamazons, if you have any suggestions for plus-size clothing attire or shopping, leave it in the comments!

Stay stylish!
