Our 10 Best-Dressed at the 2012 #MetGala: Solange Knowles, Nina Dobrev, Rihanna, Chanel Iman, Camilla Belle and More!

Glamazons,

You can’t have a true fashion prom without judging the gowns, right? We combed through all the glamourous photos at the 2012 Met Gala and found quite a few we were impressed with from Solange Knowles‘ radiant Rachel Roy gown to Carey Mulligan‘s shimmering Prada confection. Of course, I’m partial to risks on the red carpet but this year, elegance paid off in a big way. That said, here are our top 10 faves:

1. Beyonce in Givenchy

OK, maybe this was one risk that was worth it. Yes, she could have picked a nude shade closer to her skin for that undergarment. But the mere fact that Beyonce stepped away from her usual mermaid gown and gave you a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci sheer embroidered dress with gloves and a feathered train in gradient purple color?! The fact that she finally made a dramatic statement for the sake of art? Homage must be paid. GLAM.

2. Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy

And on the other end of the spectrum, Solange Knowles radiated beauty and elegance in a peplum Rachel Roy strapless gown with such an impeccable fit it looked like it was made for her. Her stunning cuff and billowing afro were brilliant compliments to this look, which brought to mind a modern-day Diana Ross. Simply exquisite. GLAM.

3. Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren

Many Glamazons went for shine on the red carpet but Camilla Belle was one of the few who nailed it. Her metallic Ralph Lauren Collection gown, which also boasts a plunging neckline and sheer straps, coupled with dazzling jewels, a sleek bun and dark red lips made this look a mix of Hollywood glamour and 1920s allure. GLAM.

4. Carey Mulligan in Prada

Carey Mulligan was a co-host of the event and as such, she had the pleasure of wearing Miuccia Prada‘s most stunning piece of the night. Again, shine was embraced to great effect here with shimmering gold palettes that were at once bold and sophisticated. Coupled with her bright blonde hair swept off her face, this look was a stunner. GLAM.

5. Rihanna in Tom Ford

Rihanna has a way of seamlessly translating her look of the moment (currently: sexy, dark) to the red carpet. The 2012 Met gala was no different. The singer wowed in a second skin Tom Ford gown with embossed crocodile leather appliqué. It was the perfect juxtaposition of dark sex appeal with elegance and glamour. Her hair offered a bit of a dramatic edge and her nails kept the goth glam theme intact. This is a stunner for me. GLAM.

6. Jessica Alba in Michael Kors

Michael Kors is exceptional at interpreting current trends yet holding fast to his elegant aesthetic. That talent is demonstrated most beautifully here in Jessica Alba‘s glimmering metallic gown. From the pleating to the grecian silhouette to the rich gold shimmer, this dress is a study in luxury and art. It reminds me of vintage Halston with a contemporary flair. Jessica’s olive skin, long waves and dark red lips brought this look full circle. GLAM.

7. Rosario Dawson in Calvin Klein

I’ll be honest: Calvin Klein‘s minimalist looks are always a hit for me but this gown has added interest with its sleek leather material manipulated to fit like a second skin. Rosario Dawson‘s lithe frame is accentuated by the gown’s high neckline, panels, cinched waist and close fit. Her glowing skin is highlighted by her hair pulled back off her face. Cobalt blue earrings add the perfect pop of color. GLAM.

8. Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier

It’s no secret that Nina Dobrev‘s custom Donna Karan Atelier gown made my night. The inspiration (Gwyneth Paltrow‘s gown in Great Expectations, also by Donna Karan) set this gown apart as the look felt timeless in a sea of more trendy dresses. It had a romantic and regal feel with silk chiffon adorned with burnt out metal sequins and gold-lined beads. The delicate asymmetrical draping and stunning train made this look a winner. GLAM.

9. Chanel Iman in Tom Ford

Chanel Iman showed just the right amount of skin in her Tom Ford Fall 2012 gown. The chalk lady amhearst pheasant feather moire tulle gown was alluring and mysterious with black sheer material covering where Chanel‘s skin would be: on the turtleneck, in the midst of a plunging neckline and over a slit by her right leg. Her pompadour and smoky eye kept the look’s glamorous and sultry theme going. GLAM.

10. Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier

Ginnifer Goodwin chose a Monique Lhuillier gown in a resplendent tangerine color that helped her stand out in the parade of metallic and dark dresses on the red carpet. The embroidered high neckline and draped skirt rendered an elongated and feminine silhouette. The vibrant hue popped against her pale skin and short black cropped coif. GLAM.

Well, that’s my list. Gosh I just love reveling in beautiful red carpet gowns! Who was your best-dressed Glamazon of the night? Vote here:

    I wasn't crazy about Rihanna's hair.
I also loved Giselle in Givenchy Haute Couture & January Jones in Versace (although I feel Solange did the look better).
This is the first picture of Rosario I'm seeing from the event and I love it. This is much better than her look at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
