Strike A Pose: Brandy and Monica Cover Ebony Magazine June 2012 [Full Spread and Video!]
Yes, that is Brandy and Monica giving you high-fashion realness on the June 2012 cover of Ebony Magazine via Necole Bitchie.
The duo who I’ve followed since I was a little girl reunited recently for a duet (“The Boy Is Mine” > “It All Belongs To Me” by the way) and to promote their upcoming albums, Brandy‘s “2/11” and Monica‘s “New Life.”
The beautiful singers were all the rage when I was a kid so to see them flourish in their adult lives as mothers and girlfriends/wives is pretty amazing to me. And did I mention they look just as gorgeous as they did when they hit the scene in 1994?
On the cover of Ebony, Monica glows in a fitted neon dress with a gold metal waistband and a matching blazer. White nails, sleek ombre hair, a smoky eye and a soft pink lip complete her look. Brandy goes for a smoky eye and a bright pink lip to compliment her soft pink dress with an asymmetrical neckline. Love that black hair on her!
In the article, the ladies open up about their supposed rivalry (as silly today as it was 18 years ago) and family and relationship drama. Hmm. I wonder if they talk about Whitney Houston in the article as they were both her daughters in music and some of the last footage of Whitney alive shows her surprising Brandy and Monica during an interview with Clive Davis. So sad.
While we’re not certain if Whitney Houston is mentioned or what the coverline “family drama,” refers to, we do know that Brandy opens up about her brother, Ray-J and his relationship with Kim Kardashian in the article. Via Necole Bitchie:
I know who he is. And I”m pissed off about some of the things I’ve been hearing. It really bothers me that [those are] the kind of things that people do for money.
He’s misunderstood. It’s one thing to have this image of [a ladies’ man], but it’s another to become this other type of person that they’re trying to make my brother out to be. I know who he is. This is a man who loves his mama and his sister and his niece. Ray J loved Kim Kardashian. They were irresponsible with their–you know–but he loved her. For five years, he was with her. In his mind and in the world’s mind, he was in my shadow for such a long time. To watch his sister become whatever I became and to not have that same path or that same way it happened for me; to be called ‘Brandy’s brother…’ To finally break out of it, you’re going to brag; you’re going to feel something about yourself. It’s not coming from a bad place, and I can tell you: Some of the shoes Ray J’s walking in, you’d take off immediately. You wouldn’t be able to handle the type of shoes he’s in.
I love that quote because I’m the same way about my brother: protective to the end. I always loved their relationship (remember “Best Friend”?).
Can’t wait to pick up this issue when it hits newsstands this month. Will you, Glamazons? What do you think of the cover?
Update: Wow, check out more pictures from the editorial which show Brandy in a sexy turquoise Lloyd Klein stunner and a green cut-out vintage Versace gown and Monica in a stunning green Lanvin dress with an asymmetrical neckline and a neon Michael Kors dress I need like tomorrow. With their makeup and inspired fashions, they knocked this shoot out of the park:
