GLAM SCOOP: Beyonce Joins Tumblr, Anna Wintour x Barack Obama Design Contest, David Beckham for H&M Ad “Offensive”
Hey Glamazons!
It’s finally Hump Day. I am thrilled the week is almost over and am celebrating by hitting up one of my favorite press appointments, woohoo! Before I run though, here’s what’s new in Fashion and Beauty. Let’s get to the scoop!
Beyonce Joins Tumblr
Just in time to celebrate her 4-year anniversary with a certain, Mr. Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, it’s been announced that Beyonce is launching a Tumblr page…at some point today (as of now, it’s still password protected). Here’s a Sneak Peek:
The ever-private singer has warmed up to social media (after creating a Twitter account with millions of followers and NEVER tweeting), even sharing the first pictures of Blue Ivy via Tumblr.
Her Tumblr designer (because we all have one of those), Matthew Siskin, says Bey has over 150 pictures.
Sure, they’ll be a tad less racy than Rihanna‘s Instagram, but still entertaining nonetheless. [The YBF]
David Beckham for H&M Ad Considered “Offensive”
Remember those droolworthy David Beckham for H&M ads (see them all here) we were thanking God for a couple of months ago? Apparently, some people had the audacity to complain about them to U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority, calling them “offensive” and “unsuitable for children” and asking that they be banned. How something that beautiful could offend I do not know.
Luckily, some David Beckham fans people at the ASA shut the critics down: “The ASA noted that there was no explicit nudity in the image, and that the ad was for an underwear range. We considered that the nature of the product meant viewers of the ad were less likely to regard the ad as gratuitous or offensive, and considered that the poses and facial expressions of David Beckham were mildly sexual at most. While we acknowledged that some viewers might consider the images distasteful, we concluded the ad was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence.”
Exactly. Please protect our right to drool over David. [Vogue UK]
Scary! There Was A Mass Fainting At A Nike Factory in Cambodia
This is terrifying. WWD is reporting that 107 garment workers at a factory that produces Nike apparel fainted today. It’s speculated that they are suffering from exposure to chemicals. It goes without saying more must be done to protect clothing workers. Sad. [WWD]
Iggy Azalea Releases Shoppable Music Video
I don’t get Iggy Azalea yet (sorry) but love that she’s taking music videos to the next lev by offering a way for fans to shop all the outfits from her first clip, “I Think She Ready.” Thanks to SSense, you can literally watch the video here, click on whatever you want to buy and purchase it on the spot. Glamazing!! Every music video henceforth must have that same capability. Yes, that’s a demand. [Fashionista]
Aww: Hilary Duff’s First Pictures of Son, Luca
How cute! 24-year-old singer Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie showed off their 2 week-old son, Luca on their website in an adorable shot taken by Jennifer Wilson. Squeal! Isn’t he too cute for words?! [Just Jared]
Mary J. Blige’s Burger King Ad Gets Pulled, But Why?
About that commercial I showed you of Mary J. Blige singing for Burger King, it got pulled but apparently, NOT because of the outrage it sparked (we can’t have our Queen singing for crispy chicken) but because of a licensing issue surrounding the song. Hmm…to be fair, David Beckham also appears in an ad for the Burger King smoothie so they’re clearly using A-list celebs now. And yes, I drooled over David’s ad. LOL.

Anna Wintour Releases Design Contest for Barack Obama “Runway To Win” Campaign
Anna Wintour is pulling out all the stops for Barack Obama‘s re-election campaign, including a “Runway To Win” competition that affords emerging designers the chance to compete to design for Obama! Interested? Choose from three pieces (an oversized t-shirt, a fit crewneck tee or a large tote bag) and submit your designs by May 1st. More details here. Good luck to you (and Obama)! [Fashionista]
Until tomorrow!
