#NYFW: DKNY Fall 2012 – Taxi Cab Chic! [Full Video]

Glamazons, can I tell you a story? The first time I got an invite to DKNY (a huge accomplishment in the New York Fashion Week world), I was late and only caught the tail end. Mind you, since every show usually starts 20 minutes late, I was actually super duper late! At any rate, I was devastated as getting an invite to the DKNY show is not easy (it only took me 5 years), and I was soo looking forward to taking it in that season. Fast-forward to Fall 2012 and guess what invite arrives in my inbox? DKNY! Woohoo!

Given the enormity of this experience, I knew I had to get there on time…and I did. Upon arriving, I ran into DKNY PR Girl who by the way, is as kind and fabulous as you can imagine. She gave me the warmest welcome.

I also spotted blogger Bryan Boy, Ashley Greene (Twilight) who is the face of DKNY Jeans, and Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries). They were all in the front row looking oh-so-downtown chic, as is appropriate for DKNY, which is in essence a sartorial salute to the city. Check out the ladies below:

Cute, right?

The show was totally worth the rushing (in my cobalt blue Aldo pumps), the hype, anticipation and myriad of requests I sent over the year that weren’t “accommodated” (<— rejection word of choice for fashion publicists).

To start, I was in awe when the doors to the venue opened up and a yellow taxi cab with a DKNY ad on top was revealed on the street. It became the start of the runway as models walked from the cab into the event space where we all sat. HOW. COOL.

Here are more deets!

Inspiration:

Of course, New York is the perennial muse for the DKNY brand and this time around, Donna found inspiration in the rebellious Beat Generation of the 1950s, which is so cool because Jack Kerouac, who wrote the brilliant “On The Road” is one of my all-time heros and biggest inspirations as a writer.

Key Pieces:

All leather everything! DKNY was a parade of sharp leather separates including flouncy skirts, stunning faux fur coats cinched at the waist with wide belts, structured dresses with faux fur collars and sheer, cut-out black gowns.

Who I Could See Wearing It:

Besides Ashley Greene and Nina Dobrev in the front row, this collection will find fans in stars like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and Zoe Saldana, who appreciate timeless, structured, cool pieces.

Also – loooved the dark hues and the bold jolts of color with red pumps and clutches.

What do you think of the collection, Glamazons?
