Strike A Pose: Kanye West Goes Shirtless for Vogue Magazine March 2012
Is it us, or is Anna Wintour having a hip hop moment? In addition to featuring Nicki Minaj in the March 2012 issue of Vogue Magazine, she tapped Kanye West for a feature on one of his favorite designers, Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci. In the shot, Kanye wraps his arm around Florence Welch while Liv Tyler lays behind Riccardo Tisci. Karolina Kurkova poses in the background with Liya Kebede looking stunning in the foreground.
Of course, you guys remember when Riccardo and Kanye collaborated on the artwork for the Watch The Throne album and H.A.M. single. You also recall that Kanye STAYS in a Givenchy look, including the much talked-about skirt he wore while performing during the Watch The Throne tour.
This is definitely one of those glorious fashion designer/rockstar bonds and Vogue says as much in the editorial:
Tisci’s passion for music has taken him around the world. His strong connection to the worlds of rap and R&B led his friends Kanye West and Jay-Z to enlist his services as art director for their collaborative album, Watch The Throne.
“I was a little bit scared, ” admits Tisci, “Because I’m not an artist or graphic artist.” He finally agreed and was awed when a meeting sequed into a jam session that involved Rihanna, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell Williams, all freely exchanging ideas “like a family giving opinions to each other,” remembers Tisci, “sharing – which is something that fashion is missing,” he adds plaintively.
His artwork for the single “H.A.M.” and the album (which reached number one on iTunes in 24 countries) draw Tisci’s childhood passion for mythology and religious iconography and his current engagement with psychedelic prints and graphics.”
I love the idea that they had a meeting of the minds with Rihanna, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell and more! That’s a brainstorm session I would LOVE to crash. What do you think of the feature, Glamazons?
Kisses,
Glamazon Jessica
