Spring 2012 Couture: Jean Paul Gaultier Channels Amy Winehouse
Known to push the envelope, Jean Paul Gaultier showed his Spring/Summer 2012 couture collection yesterday in Paris and channeled one gone but definitely not forgotten starlet: Amy Winehouse. Despite Amy’s alleged personal troubles, it’s hard to deny that fact that she was a bit of an unconventional fashion icon, if you will.
So to me it makes perfect sense that Jean Paul Gaultier would revisit her look for his latest couture collection. Her look was a wearable costume, wouldn’t you say? And that’s the thing. Jean Paul Gaultier stayed true not just his aesthetic but to Amy’s also. The mix fares rather well too. There are bold colors like hot pink, yellow and turquoise in silhouette’s that Amy was so found of like the corset and pencils skirts. While in theory, this sounds costume-y, especially when paired with the models’ hair piled high in Amy’s signature beehive and heavy lined lines, it wasn’t. Especially for the woman that Gaultier designs for.
And this is just my humble opinion, Glamazons, but that makes this collection a win in my book. Now, who’s ready to listen to some Amy Winehouse with me? What do you think of Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection? Feeling it?
Stay Stylish,
Glamazon Channing
