A Day in The Life: Versace for H&M Pre-Launch Shopping Event

So Glamazons, I embarked upon the madness that was the 51st and 5th Avenue H&M yesterday to brave the pre-launch press shopping event for Versace for H&M.

While I’m sure it won’t compare to the sheer level of insanity that will hit the store today, it was quite the surreal experience. And no, I’m not talking about the clothes.

I’m referring to the line that went down 51st street with people in fold-out chairs and sleeping bags, who had apparently been there since Thursday! Sorry about blurry blackberry pic.

Can you imagine waiting outside in the freezing cold just to own a garment designed by Donatella? Crazy!

After waiting on the press line for what seemed like forever, I finally got inside the store amidst shoving and chaos at the door. Sidenote: Truly, I feel sorry for the publicists with clipboards who have to double as security and keep passerbys from bumrushing the door. That is not easy to do in sequin Versace x H&M dresses and heels.

Once safely inside, I was greeted by a leopard step-and-repeat, huge posters of the ad campaign, sexy male models with bottles of champagne and all the Versace x H&M clothes I’d been eyeing for months.

Immediately, I grabbed the studded leather jacket, red gown, printed jacket, fur vest, black cocktail dress (a la Jennifer Hudson) and a couple scarves and headed to the dressing room. Sidenote: I tried to pick up the black varsity jacket with printed sleeves for my friend (referred to by everybody at the event as the “Kanye West jacket”) but it was gone in the first ten minutes! I even saw someone walking to the register with 4 of them!!

After trying the clothes I picked up on, it was clear the red gown and black dress weren’t made to fit an actual body, or mine atleast (maybe the Barbie-esque models in the Versace for H&M commercial would’ve had better luck).

But I LOVED the printed jacket…which many of you encouraged me to buy on Twitter. I picked it up afterall. :)

Also, the fur vest and leather were supercute (I especially loved the back of the vest!) but I couldn’t justify buying ANOTHER leather jacket and black fur vest just because they’re Versace. I had to pass on them.

I did pick up a scarf with that incredible, adorable pink and orange leopard print and iconic Versace emblem. Glamazons, I’m truly happy about this piece and think it’s going to get a lot of wear as a pop of color with neutral jackets and dresses! Super excited about it.

I paired it with my trench and Topshop boots at the store and immediately, fell in love. And yes, I do realize that bag is bigger than me.

Also, while I was there, I got interviewed by Good Morning America on the collection. Of course, I slept through it this morning but will add the video once it’s online. What did I say? Blah, blah, blah, I love Donatella, why can’t all Versace be this affordable, blah blah blah. Stay tuned for the video soon!

Anyway, those of you who are heading out to H&M today (or have been there since this morning), let me know what your shopping experience is like…and of course, what fun pieces you pick up from the collection.

Check the full line, prices and all participating H&M locations here.

Kisses,

Glamazon Jessica

Nice picks! I couldn't even get into the store on 5th so Aiden and I just kept it moving. (Yes, I brought my child with me to shop. What's a shopaholic single mama to do?!)
