#NYFW: Diesel Black Gold Spring 2012
I was super excited to score an invite to the Diesel Black Gold Spring 2012 show this year! I’ve long been a fan of Diesel’s sporty, rockstar aesthetic and knew a parade of edgy, effortlessly chic garments would stream down the runway at Pier 97, where the show was held.
What I didn’t know was how stylish the audience would be! I walked in beside (literally beside) Franca Sozzani, the editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue. How’s that for surreal? Inside, I saw a flurry of well-dressed fashion folk including one outfit I couldn’t take my eyes off: Miu Miu’s glitter bow pumps with a white tank and neon yellow pants. Wow!
And finally, when I took my seat in the second row, I ended up right behind one of my fave rappers: Common who came to check out the show in a blue fitted blazer and polka dot tie. Handsome is NOT the word! Yum!!
Common joined Gerard Butler and his date, Petra Nemcova, Sarah Lerfel, Olivier Zahm, Franca Sozzani and Carine Roitfeld in the front row.
And that’s before we even get to the clothes! Here’s the scoop on the collection:
Inspiration: According to the liner notes, designer Sophia Kokosalaki felt “it’s time to reflect with “hi-tech, industrial details” and “light-reflecting shards of mirror that provide illumination.” That message fit with the huge screen of silver panels that stood at the beginning of the runway. Think the cool downtown girl with a futuristic, 2050 feel.
Key Pieces: Signature denim with a slick metallic sheen, lots of shine in silver flared pants, miniskirts and shorts plus a mirror-inspired print flanking dresses and skirts, utilitarian pieces like trench coats, leather jackets and blazers for both men and women. Also, LOVE the strappy wrap-around sandals with metallic ankle cuffs.
Who I Could See Wearing The Collection: Veritable rockstars. Rihanna, Katy Perry, Pete Wentz, Justin Bieber, Keri Hilson, Usher Raymond.
