Backstage Beauty: Chanel 2011/2012 Fall/Winter Couture Show
Do you remember when we showed you looks from the Chanel Fall 2011/2012 Fall/Winter Couture Show last week? Well, I became so obsessed with some of these photos that I just had to take my beauty microscope to each one to find out exactly what was going on behind those black lace veil mask thing-a-ma-bobs.
And behold! It is a beautiful, dark, smokey (yet glittery) eye complete with a slightly flushed cheek and barely there lips. LOVE. (Side note: It turns out that the whole idea of the veil was to create something like a “burglar look.” I wonder if Karl Lagerfeld was secretly inspired by that McDonald’s character, The Hamburglar. Remember him?! HILAR, right?!)
So, after obsessing over the photos from the show this past weekend, I got the backstage beauty scoop from the creator of the look: Peter Philips, Creative Director of CHANEL makeup (which is obviously what he used to create these looks!) Here’s the scoop:
The Inspiration Behind The Look
“In the early stages of the Haute Couture Collection, a few key elements came up. Karl mentioned the masculine/feminine silhouette, the decor (Place Vendome), the fact that we were going to do a show at night and the flashlight shoes. That’s where the veil/burglar idea came from. The focus is on the eyes, but through a veil. Skin is pure with a hint of blush and the lips are velvet peach. On the nails, we used Chanel’s classic “Le Vernis – Blue Satin,” a timeless night blue. I wanted to create and eye that would read through a veil, that’s why I used “Illusion d’Ombre in Mirifique,” a pitch black with starlight sparkles. Eyes that see in the dark and nails the shade of night. And a soft touch of “Rouge Allure Velvet – La Furtive,” perfect for stealing kisses.”
And who wouldn’t want to steal your kisses with eye makeup that looks like that?! While I totally encourage you to rock this makeup look on a date night, I wouldn’t exactly promote the veil over the eyes…unless your guys is really into that sort of thing then that makes it totally ok. While most of the products are from the upcoming Fall 2011 collection (more on that soon!) I still wanted to provide you Glamazons with a complete list of the products so that you can create the look on your own one day in the near future.
