Spring 2011 Trend Guide: Colorblocking like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson
My dearest Glamazon Channing told you guys the 90s is back, and crop tops aren’t the only look that’s having a resurgence.
The 90s were all about energetic, bright color mixed loudly together.
Spotted at Gucci, Jil Sander and Lanvin, the new take on the trend mixes contrasting shades of rich hues for an elegant yet lively look.
Here are some tips on doing colorblocking the modern way:
-Stay in the same color family. That means if you’re coordinating with a jewel tone top (let’s say emerald), go for an equally rich purple bottom. Emerald and neon yellow would be a jarring, fashion disaster.
-Since the colors are the focus of any color blocking look, keep the silhouette minimalist and sleek so it doesn’t compete. Solid colors give a refined, confident look but you can also go for a playful look with fun prints. Too many details (i.e. ruffles, sequins) is overkill.
-Mix in black and metallic accessories for an elegant flair.
So chic, right?
