Japan Fashion Week Cancelled, Theory and Uniqlo Give Donations
It’s no surprise that Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo has been canceled as the country faces a potential nuclear disaster following Friday’s devastating earthquake. WWD reports that brands had already pulled out of Fashion Week, which was scheduled to take place next week, and canceled their shows indefinitely before the official announcement.
Many retailers have also closed shop and stock for fashion and beauty brands including Shisheido and Fast Retailing (Uniqlo’s parent company) has tanked following the disaster.
Nonetheless, Fast Retailing is donating $1.4 billion yen to relief organizations like Japanese Red Cross and 700 million yen worth of clothing via Racked.com.
I hope other brands and celebrities step up and donate to help Japan. Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in the world, and my heart just breaks as this terrible tragedy unfolds and seems to only worsen as time passes.
