GLAM OR SHAM?: Brow Grooming And Face Lifts Among Men Is On The Rise!

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” In the far-far away world of fairytales it’s the princess who poses this question, but if you step into very real world of 2011, it’s the prince who wants to know what it takes to be the prettiest thing on the scene.

Glamazons, is it just me, or have you noticed that there are more men are walking around looking well-groomed than unusual? Most women say they like their men tall, dark and handsome; it’s the universal hottie law. In a society where women are often criticized as being conceited and superficial for dedicating a considerable amount of time, money and effort to looking good, what does it mean when men are doing the same thing!? Could it be (GASP!) that men are just as vain (if not more) than they claim women are? (Ummm… YES!)

Ferocia already introduced you to men who proudly wear nail polish so it’s only right that we keep the conversation going by introducing you to the newest trend in men’s grooming: Guybrows. Men are flocking to spas and salons to get their eyebrows trimmed and shaped in growing numbers. If seeing Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino get his brows waxed on a reccent episode of Jersey Shore wasn’t enough proof that men are seeking a more clean-cut look, just glance around the room the next time you visit your local spa or salon.

A Remington consumer survey found that 63 percent of men regularly trim their ears, noses or eyebrows and men are spending $30- $75 for nicely shaped brows. (Please note the well eyebrow groomed Ryan Seacrest and David Beckham above.)

This doesn’t really bother me. I’m a firm believer that a quick eyebrow wax gives an instant face-lift and, let’s face it, having a man with a unibrow is just not a good look.

But, this next trend is an eyebrow raiser:  Men aren’t just looking to improve their looks with shapely eyebrows, but are also getting more plastic surgery, according to newly published statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Around 1.1 million men received plastic surgery in last year and face-lifts take the cake as the #1 procedure men choose.  (Side note: I’m picking my face up off the floor at the thought of my man going under the knife at all, and it’s super creepy to imagine my beau getting a face lift!)

I’m not one to complain or feel threatened by a well-kept man because I think it’s good and quite normal for a guy to be conscious (not obsessive)  about how he looks. I remember when it was taboo to even mention going to the spa with a guy I’m seeing, but there’s one who begs me to go get pedicures or what he calls “getting (his) feet soaked and scraped.” Obviously, I’m not one to turn down a free pedi, so that’s just an added plus for me. If he starts asking me to get matching nail colors, I’ll know it’s time for me to find a new pedi partner!

What do you think Glamazons? Can a man go too far with his pretty boy swag? Have you ever dated a guy that got a face lift or plastic surgery? How far is too far?

Ciao Bellas,

Glamazon Margo
